Join our Free Forró Practice in the center of Nijmegen! 💃🕺
This informal event is open to all levels, so don’t worry if you have never danced Forró before – everyone who is curious and wants to know more about this Brazilian dance style is welcome.
After several workshops and events this summer season, we want to continue spreading the love for the magical partner dance Forró in Nijmegen in these informal practice sessions. Let’s enjoy, connect, practice our dance steps and musicality, socialize, get to know each other better, and grow the Forró Nimma community.

✨About forró
Forró is a vibrant and joyful partner dance originating from the northeastern region of Brazil. It’s danced to the rhythmic beats of forró music, which blends accordion, zabumba, and triangle to create a captivating and energetic sound. The dance itself is all about connection, with close partner moves that make it easy to learn and incredibly fun to dance. Forró is sure to bring a smile to your face and warmth to your heart!

Forró de Rabeca – Live Show

We’re excited to announce the next band playing live forró in Nijmegen! Coming from Lisbon, Forró de Rabeca brings authentic forró, as it originated from its Brazilian roots: played with the Rabeca – the first melodic instrument used to create the rhythm in Northeastern Brazil.The group has performed at festivals and forró parties all over Portugal and Europe, and we’re so happy we get to experience their unique sound right here in Nijmegen.

✨About the band
The “Rabeca” is a bowed string instrument, precursor of the violin. It is believed to be of Arab origin, in North Africa, from where it was taken to Europe. From Europe it went to Brazil, where it started to be played in popular and religious manifestations since the remote times of Brazilian colonization. While in Europe the instrument was modernized and modified until it was called ‘violin’ around the 19th century, in Brazil it kept the characteristic shape and sound.
In the Northeast region of Brazil the rabeca was the first melodic instrument to play Baião and Forró, rhythms that would become very popular throughout Brazil, in addition to being important elements for the identity of northeastern and Brazilian culture.

Forrofiá – Live Show

We’re super excited to announce that the popular Brazilian Forró band, Forrofiá, will be performing in Nijmegen on September 18th! Forrofiá is coming directly from Brazil for a tour through Europe, and they’re making a stop at Waalhalla to delight us with an energetic lively show of traditional Brazilian music. You can’t miss out on this one, the energy of this show will be unlike anything you’ve seen before!

✨About the band
Forrofiá plays authentic forró pé-de-serra music, using traditional instruments: accordion, zabumba (Brazilian drum), cavaco (small guitar), and triangle. The band was formed in 2018, and is on the rise in the forró circuit in Brazil, playing all around the country and now also touring Europe showcasing this unique part of Brazilian culture around the world.

We’ve invited the amazing dancer and teacher Bruna from Forró Den Haag. Bruna’s workshops are not only fun but also deeply focused on the importance of offering a comfortable dance and a true connection—with your dance partner, the music, and the cultural aspects of Forró.

Based in Amsterdam, with a lifelong love for Brazilian music, DJ Lanús rediscovered the magic of forró through dancing and has been lighting up the parties in The Netherlands since 2017. Dance along for an exciting journey of rhythm and good vibes.

Forró is all about community, we’re doing this together! Do you have a good idea for a get-together, or is there a teacher or a band you’d love to invite? Bring your ideas and let’s make it a reality!

We aim to organize regular opportunities for getting together. This can be with an established forró teacher, DJ, or live band either from The Netherlands, other places in Europe, or even straight from Brazil. On other occasions, it can be a small group of people getting together to practice some steps in someone’s living room or in a park. We love to collaborate with people who have good ideas!

We’re passionate about spreading our love for forró, and we love connecting to like-minded people through the dance AND the music. We hope to see you soon on the dance floor somewhere in Nijmegen!!
